Master Essay Method

The Master Essay Method concentrates on the most important skills involved in bar exam essay writing: issue spotting, outlining, and connecting the facts from the question with elements of the rules. It was the first bar exam essay program to be presented on the Internet, and it remains the most sensible and literate. The Master Essay Method applies the same basic approach to every subject on the bar exam in a way that makes sense – both to the student and to the grader!

Each of the lessons is self-contained. You can go through them in any order you choose, however I am presenting them to you in a typical order. Many of my students choose to go through two or three of the essay questions from any given seminar, leaving others to do later.

It makes sense to practice MBE questions from the same subject as you practice essays. To the extent you identify substantive problems, go back and study the law – and consider annotating an outline and/or making flash cards from your mistakes. Remember – the most common mistake is to study too much and not practice enough! The more carefully you practice and review essay questions, the more knowledgeable you’ll be about how the material is tested. Obviously, this is a big key to success, far more important than being able to recite obscure legal boilerplate.
