The Alaska bar examination, a 2½-day exam, consists of
- the six-hour Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), weighted 50%;
- two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) questions, weighted 12.5%;
- three 1-hour Alaska essay questions, weighted 15%; and
- six 30-minute Alaska essay questions, weighted 22.5%.
The successful applicant must achieve a combined scaled score of 140. Applicants also must pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) with a scaled score of 80 within 24 months before or after the bar exam.
The following subjects may be tested on the Alaska bar exam:
- business organizations (associations, partnerships, corporations)
- civil procedure
- constitutional law (Alaska and federal)
- contracts, including UCC Article 2 sales
- criminal law and procedure
- evidence
- family law
- real property, including real estate finance
- torts
- UCC Articles 1 (general provisions) & 2 (sales)
