Kentucky

The Kentucky Bar exam, a two-day exam, consists of

  • the six-hour Multistate Bar Examination (MBE),
  • six 30-minute Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) questions, and
  • six 30-minute Kentucky Essay questions.

Successful applicants must pass both the essay and the Multistate portions of the exam, with a scaled score of 132 on the MBE and 75% on the essay portion. Before taking the bar exam, applicants also must pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) with a scaled score of 75.

The following subjects may be tested on the Kentucky bar exam:

  • administrative law and procedure
  • business entities
  • civil procedure
  • conflict of laws
  • constitutional law
  • contracts, including UCC Article 2 sales
  • criminal law and procedure
  • domestic relations (family law)
  • estates (wills, trusts, and estates)
  • evidence
  • property, personal and real, including real estate finance
  • taxation (federal)
  • torts
  • UCC Articles 1 (general provisions), 2 (sales), 3 (negotiable instruments), 9 (secured transactions)
