The Connecticut bar exam, a two-day exam, consists of: the six-hour multiple-choice Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), weighted 50%; and twelve 30-minute Connecticut essay questions, weighted 50%.

The successful applicant must achieve a combined scaled score of 264 out of 400 points. Within 4 years before or after the bar exam, applicants also must pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) with a scaled score of 80, or receive a “C” or better in a course on Professional Responsibility at an approved law school.

The following subjects may be tested on the Connecticut bar exam: administrative law, business entities, including sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations, civil procedure, conflict of laws, constitutional law (Connecticut and federal), contracts, including UCC Article 2 sales, criminal law and procedure, evidence, professional responsibility, property, real and personal, including future interests and real estate finance, torts, Uniform Commercial Code, including Articles 1 (general provisions), 2 (sales), 3 (negotiable instruments), and 9 (secured transactions), wills, trusts, and estates.
